Babymoon

Baby Iola Therese (eye-ola tereza) is one week old today, and we're falling and falling in love with her.
If I had the time, motivation, energy... this post would have several chapters:

1. Birth plan vs birth story (strategic report vs journalism)
2. Babymoon menu (seared tuna with soy ginger glaze, red beans and rice, etc)
3. Breastfeeding ruminations (breastfed babies are smarter because it's so damn hard, nipple dynamics)
4. Iola's name story (John's paternal grandmother, my maternal)
5. The things we know about Iola so far (she sucks hard, likes to keep her right hand by her face)

But I don't! I'm going to sleep right now! I will only post these pictures:

The entrance

35 hours of labor endorphins + total pain block + prospect of seeing Iola within minutes = euphoria

John and Iola together while I was being stitched up

In the recovery ward.  Our neighbors saved my sanity at 4am every night, without speaking a word of english

Our first day home, a little tired                                                Today, table-top family

    Pronunciation of Iola:
It's interesting that you should pronounce your new baby's name "Eye-yola". My mother, and John's grandmother, preferred the pronunciation "Yo'la". I remember her commenting rather wryly about her in-laws' "mispronunciation" -- "Well, they know how I prefer it, but I guess they can't help it! They speak mostly French." (Although, it seems to me that the French pronunciation would definitely be "Yola"!)
Anyway, your darling little girl has a beautiful name, and is a beautiful child. I'm so happy for you!
I enjoyed your writings and your pictures, and your song.
God bless the three of you.
I am sending a baby sweater with John Mire and Martha. It's a bit large for now, but come winter she should fit into it. (Does Abu Dhabi have a winter?) Anyway, I had fun making it, and thought of Rose and her interest in knitting while I was doing it. I wanted to avoid seams, and so it was challenging to adjust the directions to avoid making 2 fronts, 2 sleeves, and a back, and then sewing them all together! If you are interested, I can send you directions about how I did it.

Hey, as soon as I saw the photo of Ioloa's entrance, I said to mom and Eunice that Iola looked like the sun rising over the horizon. Ready for it all. Eunice thought I should share that by writing a comment.
