Weekend of walking
Yesterday's walking project started after running for two miles. We walked from one end of the Corniche to the other, mostly on the park side, from the hedge maze through the garden rooms and urban park and Khalidiya park (stopping to have cookies with Maha and Naseeba), then crossing under the street and walking along the beach, finally ending at the Emirates Palace. John took a cab back to get the car and picked us up while we waited by the fountains.
Today's walk involved meeting John at the Sheraton Corniche where he was conducting the longest interview in the world with NYU's John Sexton. I had an hour to wait before the interview (and Iola's nap) was over, so I walked to the Meena end of the Corniche, along the gulf, past the dhow boats, and back. She was snug as a lump in her sling. Then we had lunch with Sexton, who is terribly nice, and the lunch dragged on pleasantly until Iola got bored, and then we walked home, another hour-long walk.
According to Iola, walking is SO fun. It makes her so sleepy for her naps that she can't even complain a single whine, and then she collapses in bed at night and sleeps like a (litle) log. If there were a job walking around town, like the post-man of Abu Dhabi, she'd sign me up. If only there were addresses so people could get their mail delivered. It'd be a winter job, though... I just wonder why SHE gets so tired? Must be something about the vestibular system.
While walking I decided that I'll try and take an afternoon cell-phone-photo every day and post it here. Lauren Lancaster's 3pm photo project gave me the idea... might be really boring, though.
